Hand-Hammered Tibetan Singing Bowl

$99.00

Singing Bowls, also known as Tibetan Prayer Bowls, Rin or Suzu gongs, or Himalayan Bowls, are a hand-hammered type of instrument that produces a unique and soothing sound through vibration when hit or rubbed with the accompanying mallet.

Our singing bowls are expertly handcrafted by Nepalese artisans using traditional Tibetan techniques. They are made of premium quality brass alloy and are corrosion resistant. These mystical metal bowls, when struck, create contemplative and heavenly sounds, that will help you relax and center. Singing Bowls can be used for healing, music therapy, relaxation, and meditation.

The singing bowls are palm-size at 12cm (4.75 inches), portable, and easy to use. A great choice for beginners and those who are interested in sound meditation.

Includes: 1x Singing Bowl, 1x wooden mallet and 1x cushion

🜃 Benefits:

The sounds singing bowls produce create a kind of energy medicine that is said to fix the broken frequencies of the body, mind, and soul. Playing these bowls creates a centering effect, which causes the left and right sides of the human brain to synchronize with one another.

Singing bowls have many incredible benefits:

  • Reduces stress, anxiety, and anger
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improves circulation
  • Increases blood flow
  • Increases mental and emotional clarity
  • Promotes stillness
  • Promotes relaxation and happiness
  • Stimulates the immune system and is known to alleviate fibromyalgia and psoriasis in individuals that meditate

🜃 Ethically & Sustainably Sourced:

At Artemis & Ivy, we are passionate about sourcing products that support local communities and respect the cultural origin. Our singing bowls are sourced from a family-run Nepalese handicraft business that practices fair trade and sustainable social business. They provide employment opportunities to the deprived and underprivileged in the community, particularly women (84% of employees are women), socially and economically empowering them by improving their living standards and providing them with financial freedom. They believe in diversification and provide employment security to people from various social, religious, and ethnic backgrounds from different parts of the country, including many rural homes. The Nepalese artisans handcraft their pieces using traditional tools, skills and techniques in keeping with the sacred origins of singing bowls, reflecting their cultural values and significance.

🜃 How Singing Bowls Work:

Singing bowls work because of sound waves that are emitted when the bowl itself is struck with a  mallet. These vibrations are so significant and organized that they have the ability to shift different elements, like water, into creative patterns.

Today's technology allows us to film a water-filled singing bowl up close. When slowed down, it reveals that the delicate way in which the vibrations from the bowl lift and manipulate the water causes actual droplets to dance across the surface in a choreographed way.

Since humans are made up of a large amount of water, singing bowls could potentially have a significant effect on the vibrations of one’s body. Some practitioners believe that if we can make our own vibrations harmonize with those of a singing bowl, then the opportunities for balance and healing become endless. Attuning the vibrations of the body to the vibration of a singing bowl can bring about relief of stress, lowering of blood pressure, feelings of relaxation, and healing of imbalances within one’s system.

🜃 How to Use:

To play a singing bowl, rest the bowl in the palm of your hand. Flex the palm so that it is as flat as possible and your fingers are not involved in holding the bowl at all.

With the other hand, pick up your mallet and, with the head facing to the floor, give the bowl a solid tap on the rim or side so that the initial sound emerges. Immediately after the tap, begin maneuvering the mallet around the circumference of the bowl while keeping it firmly pressed against the edge.

Continue to go around, using your entire arm as opposed to just your wrist. The frequency of the vibration will build with the movement, and, if done properly, the sound will continue to resonate for some time after you part the mallet from the bowl itself.

Please note: Playing a singing bowl feels difficult to everyone on their first try! Those with more experience will be able to play their bowl for lengthy periods of time without a break in sound, but those who are unfamiliar with the practice may find it more challenging. Practice is key.
