Our high-quality Tingshas are expertly handmade by Nepalese artisans using an ancient blend of bronze metals and are hand-tuned to the Key of Om. This mystical cymbal is hand-carved with the Astamangal symbols (also known as the Eight Auspicious Symbols) to reflect sacred ritual and dharma, imbuing the piece with deep reverence and spiritual significance.

Tingsha Cymbals are musical instruments used traditionally for singing, chanting, prayers, ritual offerings, and ceremonies in Hindu and Buddhist religion. Originating in Tibet, Tingsha finds use in various meditative and other Buddhist practices. Historically, they actually predate Buddhism, having first appeared in shamanistic practices.

Tingshas are two metal cymbals joined together by a leather cord. When the two pieces strike each other they produce a clear, pure, cleansing sound. Tingsha can be used for healing, space clearing, sound therapy treatment and to focus the mind before and after meditation.

Dimensions: 6.5-7cm per individual cymbal

🜃 Benefits:

The sound Tingsha produces creates a kind of energy medicine that is said to fix the broken frequencies of the body, mind, and soul. It creates a centering effect, which causes the left and right sides of the human brain to synchronize with one another.

Tingshas have many incredible benefits:

  • Reduces stress, anxiety, and anger
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Improves circulation
  • Increases blood flow
  • Increases mental and emotional clarity
  • Promotes stillness
  • Promotes relaxation and happiness
  • Stimulates the immune system and is known to alleviate fibromyalgia and psoriasis in individuals that meditate

🜃 Ethically & Sustainably Sourced:

At Artemis & Ivy, we are passionate about sourcing products that support local communities and respect the cultural origin. Our Tingsha cymbals are sourced from a family run Nepalese handicraft business that practices fair trade and sustainable social business. They provide employment opportunities to the deprived and underprivileged in the community, particularly women (84% of employees are women), socially and economically empowering them by improving their living standards and providing them with financial freedom. They believe in diversification and provide employment security to people from various social, religious, and ethnic backgrounds from different parts of the country, including many rural homes. The Nepalese artisans handcraft their pieces using traditional tools, skills and techniques in keeping with the sacred origins of Tingsha cymbals, reflecting their cultural values and significance.

🜃 How to Use:

To use them, you grip the bells by the cord in both hands, just above the cymbals themselves. Being sure to hold the cord firmly with your fingertips so that it does not slip, you strike the edges of the tingsha together once. This produces the distinctive sound of the tingsha. Continue holding until the vibrations and associated sound cease completely.

However, the real use of Tingsha cymbals is not simply to produce sound, it is about what you do with that sound. There is another level involved, one of heart and mind. Some of the most common uses include space clearing and toning.

Space Clearing with Tingsha

One of the most common uses of Tingsha cymbals is a practice known as space clearing. Commonly associated with the Chinese practice of feng shui, space clearing is a practice used to remove emotional baggage and negative energy from an area. The theory is that everything from normal daily living to major emotional upheavals creates a sort of energetic residue in a room or space. Space clearing, which one can accomplish in a number of ways, clears out that residue to create an emotionally neutral space.

While you can use sage smudging to space clear, Tingsha provides the same results without the smoke. Simply move through the space with the Tingsha, sounding them slowly. Work your way around the room, taking care to reach all four corners as the clear tone dispels any residual emotional energy.

Toning with Tingsha Cymbals

The primary meditative use of Tingsha cymbals is toning. Put simply, it involves using the cymbals to create a tone that clears the listener's mind. While the human voice can also accomplish this, the basic principle remains the same. When performed properly, toning affects both the mind and the body. Sound vibrations naturally penetrate the skin, providing a whole-body simultaneous internal and external massage.

On a mental level, toning with Tingsha cymbals helps you find clarity as you focus on the sound of the bells. One of the hardest things for beginners to do is clear their mind for meditation. Every word you hear, or even thought you have, can be a distraction. By placing all your attention on one thing, the sound from the bells, you can drive out the distractions that would otherwise prevent meditation. In this case, the lack of words is a definite feature.
